Theme of the lesson titled WU AND THE YELLOW DRAGON
The story has a beautiful theme that reflects the faith of Chinese people in the supreme power and the Chinese mythology. The people who believe in Semitic religions worship God with the intention to enter Heaven after their deaths. However, Chinese people worship the supreme power, holy spirits and their ancestors with the motive to be worshipped also after their deaths by the coming generations. They also believe in SERVE AND BE SERVED principle. The self-same principle is the signboard of the Chinese myths, traditions and cultures. The similar principle is illustrated in the story titled WU AND THE YELLOW DRAGON in which the storm god, aka shenlong, comes in the form of a handsome youth and asks wu for some hospitality. Wu welcomes him along with his companions. In other words, WU and his family serve the storm god and his companions and, in return, the storm god saves wu and his family from rain flood. Thus, the Chinese principle of SERVE AND BE SERVED is magnificently justified in the story.
